Most people want to bring people to the Lord, but fear and intimidation keep them from knowing where to even start. We are each called to be salt and light in the world—even if it’s a bit uncomfortable at times! Here are seven things we teach at KCM Evangelism Training events that will help you formulate a plan to save the lost.
1. Speak to the Spirit of a Person. We don’t need to tell people they’re going to hell. Believe it or not, they know that. Instead, speak the Word of God to them. It will fill a void in their spirit. Then let the Word do the work. It never returns void (Hebrews 4:12).
2. Just Talk, Don’t Debate. You don’t have to debate people or defend the Lord to get your point across. Just share the truth in love. Tell them what Jesus has done for you and what He wants to do for them (Romans 1:16).
3. Choose the Right Time. Timing is everything. So don’t approach someone who is working or obviously busy. That will have the opposite effect you’re looking for (Proverbs 25:11).
4. Avoid Using Christian Jargon. Don’t use phrases like “I’m redeemed” or other “Christianese.” Use everyday language and deliver it with compassion, rather than in a preachy way.
5. Leave Something in Their Hands. Once you’ve given them something to think about, leave them with something they can refer to later to get more information. Be sure it is on a simple level.
6. Be Friendly and Smile! Love is what draws people to Christ. People are much more open to someone who is showing them kindness and love.
7. Pray. Activating the power of the Holy Spirit to win souls through prayer will make your efforts surprisingly simple. After all, He can accomplish far more than we ever could on our own!
If the Word is in you, it will make a way out. The Bible says to take no thought of how or what thing you will answer or what you will say, because the Holy Spirit will teach you in the same hour what you should say. As you acquire a thorough knowledge of God’s Word, then your Helper and Teacher, the Holy Spirit, will bring all things to your remembrance when you need it.
