Freedom From Fear

Did you know that you can and should live a life free from fear? Fear is a tool the enemy uses to control, intimidate and paralyze the believer. He fosters worry, dread and fear through any means he can. However, the New Testament alone has over a hundred references to the Lord expressly saying that His people should NOT be fearful. The King James Version often says, “Fear not” or “do not be afraid,” while other versions say, “Do not be anxious” or “do not worry or fret.”

When you asked Jesus into your heart, His perfect love cast fear out. “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. He who fears has not been made perfect in love” 1 John 4:18 (NKJV). The word perfect in that verse indicates someone who is mature or developed. The moment you accept Christ, your spirit is made new and free from fear; but as with all things in your spiritual life, your mind must be renewed according to the Word.

Your goal should be to completely eradicate fear from your life. Can you imagine living a fear-free life? Nothing would be able to move you, shake you, intimidate you, paralyze you, throw you into a state of panic, or cause you anguish or stress. That life is absolutely possible. You were meant to live “without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you” (Philippians 1:28, NIV).

You Are Redeemed From Fear

You need to identify fear in your life because you have been redeemed from it. “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Christ Jesus; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith” (Galations 3:13-14, KJV).

Take time to ask the Lord what fears you are dealing with. Once the Holy Spirit has identified those fears, you have something to work with. You can begin to eliminate them from your life. Faith is acting on the truth that God is bigger than Satan. Faith produces the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus. You have the ability to drive fear out of your life by feeding your thought life with what the Word of God says about each fear you have identified. Find those scriptures that speak to the fears you are overcoming. Remember, Psalm 34:4 (NKJV) says, “I sought the LORD, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.”

You Have Authority Over Fear

Once you have taken the time to listen to the Lord and His direction, it is time to take your authority once and for all over EVERY fear. Our foundation of faith comes from hearing the Word, receiving it into our hearts and minds, and then acting on it by saying it and integrating it into our daily lives. That daily life integration must include adopting a zero-tolerance policy toward fear. No teaching people to be fearful, no playing games to scare people, no dreading upcoming situations or events. Absolutely zero tolerance! Make the decision to obey every single biblical command to fear not. Take charge of your mind and exercise your God-given authority.
