God is Love and Love is God (1 John 4:8)—that is sometimes hard for us to comprehend, but it’s not impossible, because it’s actually something God wants us to understand. He wants us to know the magnitude of His love.
“May you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen” (Ephesians 3:18-21).
Part of developing our understanding of God’s love for us is reading and meditating on His Word. Renewing our minds to His truth. Exchanging how we think of love for His perspective. To help you do that, consider the following 10 Scriptures replacing words representing God with Love—and let them transform your thinking to truly believe that God loves you!
- John 1:1-3
“In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with LOVE, and the Word was LOVE. He existed in the beginning with LOVE. LOVE created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him.”
- John 3:16
“For this is how LOVE loved the world: LOVE gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”
- Ephesians 2:4-6
“But LOVE is so rich in mercy, and LOVE loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, LOVE gave us life when LOVE raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by LOVE’S grace that you have been saved!) For LOVE raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with LOVE in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus.”
- Romans 5:5
“For we know how dearly LOVE loves us, because LOVE has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with LOVE’S love.”
- John 15:9-13
“I have loved you even as LOVE has loved me. Remain in my love. When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey LOVE’S commandments and remain in LOVE’S love. I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow! This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
- John 16:26-27
“Then you will ask in my name. I’m not saying I will ask LOVE on your behalf, for LOVE himself loves you dearly because you love me and believe that I came from LOVE.”
- 1 John 4:7-12
“Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from LOVE. Anyone who loves is a child of LOVE and knows LOVE. But anyone who does not love does not know LOVE, for LOVE is love. LOVE showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. This is real love—not that we loved LOVE, but that he loved us and sent LOVE’S Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. Dear friends, since LOVE loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other. No one has ever seen LOVE. But if we love each other, LOVE lives in us, and LOVE’S love is brought to full expression in us.”
- Romans 8:38-39
“I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from LOVE’S love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from LOVE’S love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of LOVE that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
- Psalm 36:5-7
“Your unfailing love, O LOVE, is as vast as the heavens; your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds. Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the ocean depths. You care for people and animals alike, O LOVE. How precious is your unfailing love, O LOVE! All humanity finds shelter in the shadow of your wings.”
- Lamentations 3:22-24
“The faithful love of LOVE never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is LOVE’S faithfulness; LOVE’S mercies begin afresh each morning. I say to myself, “LOVE is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in LOVE!”
